English As An Additional Language (EAL) Workshop

To address the gaps in language knowledge of pupils with English as an Additional Language and to help them overcome barriers to learning.

For Schools

What does EAL support involve?

Teaching English as an Additional Language involves supporting learners to access a mainstream curriculum taught in English.  Gaps in their language knowledge invariably provide barriers to fully accessing lesson content.

In order to better integrate into a school community, EAL learners need to feel confident to communicate in and out of the classroom.  EAL support is not just about accessing the academic aspects of a curriculum. EAL learners also need to develop their general level of communication in English, as school is a place for building friendships, expressing oneself, and developing interests too.

What’s in the course?

  • Confidence-boosting ideas, strategies and approaches to integrate and support children with EAL in the classroom

  • Meeting the needs of pupils in the early stages of acquiring EAL

  • Strategies and approaches that ensure the unique identity of each EAL learner is valued, recognised and celebrated

  • Understanding the stages of language acquisition and their implications for teaching EAL learners

“We are so pleased with our oldest daughter’s progress since working with Caroline. English is her second language and her confidence has increased hugely; it’s such a joy to see her wanting to learn! Her teachers have seen a marked improvement in her engagement at school and my husband and I were the recipients of glowing feedback at her recent Parents’ Evening. We feel so fortunate to have your help.”
