Numeracy In Schools Workshop

To enhance a pupil’s understanding of numerical concepts, whilst fostering their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

For Schools

What does it mean to be Numerate?

Numeracy encompasses the understanding, ability, conduct, and attitude required to effectively utilise Mathematics in a variety of scenarios. During a child's early years, they experience a period of rapid growth and learning. They rely on Mathematical concepts to make sense of the world around them and to establish connections between these concepts and their everyday experiences.

Being numerate goes beyond simply acquiring fundamental Mathematical skills. It involves having confidence in one's abilities. Research indicates that other aspects of development, such as resilience and perseverance, contribute to success in Numeracy too. Numeracy also entails applying the Mathematical principles learned in school to real-life situations that necessitate problem-solving, critical thinking, and the ability to make sense of applied contexts.

What’s in the course?

  • Proficiency in the language, symbols, and notation of Mathematics

  • Cultivating a sense of Mathematical curiosity and applying inductive and deductive reasoning to problem-solving

  • Gaining confidence in using Maths to analyse and solve problems, both within academic settings and real-life scenarios

  • Developing abstract, logical, and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to critically reflect on one's own work and the work of others

  • Building self-assurance when faced with Mathematical problem-solving

“I thought you might want to see the Maths homework Duncan did last night - completely independently as well! His self-belief and confidence is coming on in leaps and bounds. He’s never been self-motivated when it comes to school work and it’s so exciting to see him taking the initiative. Thank you so much for believing in him!”
